[Continuing this thread, in which Spy has convinced Engineer to spend a vacation with him. Fishing, fine dining, and some enemy bonding ensue.


Engineer steps into the elevator, hitting the button for their floor, pulling at his collar to loosen that next button.]

Hey, thanks again for the dinner and the suit. I'll have to put it to use some other time to justify your spendin' money on all this.

[The door opened, depositing them on their floor. Spy unlocked the door to their room, flopping onto his bed and kicking his shoes off.]

This room ees worth every penny.

And that's before we even get to day two of the vacation.

I know I can't fault it. If those beds sleep half as good as they look, I'll be happy.

[He steps in front of the mirror and pulls off his jacket before unbuttoning his shirt. Spy was right- the jacket isn't really hot so much as it was that he was nervous.]

[Spy watches him appreciatively, too full to even think of doing much more than watching.]

I will test eet out for you while you are een zhe shower.

[He tosses the shirt to the bed and heads for the closet for a hanger, intending to hang them up so they don't get too wrinkled. After that, it's back to the suitcase to look for his night clothes.]

And if they aren't good enough, I'm sure there'll be a place around here with other ones we can test out.

Mmm. I would like zhat.

[He sits up to pull his jacket off, leaving him in just the longsleeve shirt he's wearing, relaxing back against the pillows and casually watching Engineer disrobe.]

But I zhink zhis room ees more zhan satisfactory. Just look at zhat view!

[Turning on his side he looked out the window, the forest in complete darkness while millions of stars twinkled above it.]

[Engie pulls himself out of his search to look out the window, whistling at the glittering lights in the sky above them.]

It's one we don't get to appreciate much on the battlefield, that's for sure.

[Finding his night shirt and pants, he pulls out a bag into which he's tucked a few hygiene-related odds and ends and heads for the bathroom.]

You sure you don't want to go first?

I am fine. And I will shower een zhe morning ozzerwise I will never truly wake up.

[He stretches, going to his own luggage to find his pajamas, silky and longsleeved. His mask he pulls out of his pants pocket and makes sure it's within easy reach on the nightstand, just in case.]

Will do, partner.

[And with that, he heads into the shower. He leaves his razor by the sink, intending to shave in the morning; for now, it's a quick wash under some cold water, mostly to calm his nerves as he does his best not to regret not pursuing the woman in the green dress.

No, he doesn't have regrets. It was just a passing interest, something he knows he can't pursue. Not until he's figured out how to get out of this alive. And even if he does, what kind of husband will he be, having been a killer of men for so long? Or what kind of father?

Hopefully better than his own. He learned a lot about mechanics from his old man, but there were a lot of times he was absent, too absorbed in his own work to provide anything other than money. It's a trait that runs in the family, unfortunately.

Once he feels satisfied with his shower, he heads out, hanging his towel over the bar on the wall before stepping into view of Spy, decked in his new pajamas.]

I couldn't help but notice you packed these in there before I even agreed to go on this vacation. There any other surprises you got in store?

[Spy, clad in his silky pajamas is laying on his side, still admiring the view, but now with that bag of candy nearby. His eyes swing to Engineer, appreciating those pajamas.]

I am every hopeful.

Perhaps. But eef I told you zhey would not be surprises now would zhey?

Zhey look good.

I suppose you've got a point.

[He stops by the full-length mirror again, laughing.]

They do look good, but I'll have to get used to 'em. I don't usually sleep in anything more than my briefs and a shirt, if that.

Eef you want to sleep naked, do not be shy on my behalf. Eets a little cold for zhat zhough.

[Half the fun was getting people out of their clothes, and having no clothes to start with didn't pose much of a challenge. He stretched again, putting the bag of candy on the floor at the side of the bed and getting up so he could use the bathroom, gathering his own supplies from his luggage.]

Do you normally sleep een your goggles and hardhat as well?

[Grabbing a notebook from his suitcase, he takes a seat on the bed, patting his helmet on the night stand.]

I like to keep them nearby, just in case. I expect you do the same with that.

[He nods to Spy's mask sitting only inches from his goggles.]

Unfortunate side effect of my work.

[Spy nods before disappearing into the bathroom. He washes his face and cleans up, rubbing at the scruff forming across his chin. He'll shave in the morning. He's too full and tired right now. Besides if Engineer wanted to get up with the sunrise he'd need all the sleep he could get. Emerging from the bathroom he slides back into his bed, pulling the sheets up to his neck and turning to look over at Engie.]

What are you working on?

[Engineer is already hard at work, his pencil going across the paper as fast as his eyes can follow.]

Just somethin' I've been workin' on for a while now. Haven't got all the bugs worked out of it yet. And if we want to use it on the field, it'll need the bugs worked out.

Zhat tells me very little, unless you are intentionally being secretive and zhen I will not pry.

I suppose eet will be more of a surprise should I run into whatever eet ees on zhe field.

[He glances over at Spy.]

You're not gonna take this back to your team, are you?

[not_onyourside]

Of course not! I am very good at keeping secrets.

[sentryslinger]

[He smirks— he figured as much.]

I'm tryin' to make my teleporters work both ways.

[not_onyourside]

So you can go back to zhe base?

[He thinks about that for a while.]

Would zhat be beneficial to anyone but you?

[sentryslinger]

It might be useful for applications other than battle, say if I get stuck in a blizzard somewhere with just enough metal to build one contraption.

I see where you are going wez zhis.

[He grins.]

What would happen eef someone was at zhe entrance trying to use eet while someone was at zhe exit trying to use it?

That would be one of the bugs I haven't worked out. I can tell you right now that it ain't pretty.

Zhat ees horrifying.

[He can imagine all kinds of terrible things that might happen given that he has no idea how the teleporters even work.]


Does zhe company pay you extra for zhese zhings you invent?

Not particularly. They help me do my job better, though. Helps keep the team alive.
