Vacationing

[Continuing this thread, in which Spy has convinced Engineer to spend a vacation with him. Fishing, fine dining, and some enemy bonding ensue.


Engineer steps into the elevator, hitting the button for their floor, pulling at his collar to loosen that next button.]

Hey, thanks again for the dinner and the suit. I'll have to put it to use some other time to justify your spendin' money on all this.

[Spy is sound asleep, cuddled into a ball with his arms around the pillow when a horrifically loud clap of thunder erupts overhead, startling him awake and shaking the windows.

He's out of bed in an instant, panting and looking around wildly before he realizes where he is. Running a hand over his face he starts to climb back in his bed only to glance over at still upright form of Engineer. On second thought he drags all his blankets around himself, settling onto the edge of Engie's bed, keeping his distance still, but wanting closeness during the storm.]

[Engineer shifts as he dozes, settling further into the pillows propped behind him. The clap of thunder is followed by another rumble shortly thereafter- while neither really drag him from his sleep, they rouse him enough for him to realize how cold he is. Most of his clothes are hanging in the bathroom, after all. Reaching toward the side of the bed for the edge of the blanket, his hand bumps into something that's already there.

That's what makes him open his eyes- he hadn't expected there to be another body in his bed. He can't say he's surprised though, as he looks to the window and to the storm outside, the wind and rain having intensified since he last looked.

It's not all that unfamiliar of a situation for Engineer: this isn't the first time he's woken up during a storm to find someone has joined him in his bed, looking for companionship to fight away fear. It's the first time it's a Spy instead of a Pyro, but the sentiment is all the same. And the solution is as well, he assumes. Engineer tugs the comforter out from under Spy, pulling it toward the center of the bed so he doesn't roll off, then slides under it himself, throwing the rest over the bundle of blankets that's sharing his sleeping space.

With a nod to himself, he settles in again, closing his eyes, listening to the rain, and thinking of good times.]

[Spy welcomes the addition of another layer of blankets, less because he's cold and more because the weight is comforting. He half expected Engineer to kick him out and back into his own bed so he can't help but smile to himself and inch a bit closer when he feels the bed shift as his companion slides under the comforter next to him.

He doesn't come out from the blankets he's wrapped in, so Engineer isn't getting cuddled, but Spy remains at his side for at least another hour or two, actually getting some sleep while the storm rages outside.

When he wakes back up he doesn't move, staying in the warm cavern he's created and watching the darkened window as the rain continues to pour. At least the lightning and thunder seems to have moved on.]

[While Spy wakes up, Engineer continues to nap, the early morning having worn him out more than he thought. He shifts in his sleep, turning over so he's right against that bundle of blankets, scooting next to it to share some of that warmth.

Yes Spy, that sound is him snoring. At least it's relatively light.]

[Spy glances over his shoulder at him, a little surprised, only to realize that Engineer is still sound asleep. He's too bundled up in the blankets to unfurl himself without waking him, so he simply presses back against him, making sure the main blanket is around both of them.

He shushes the fish who are splashing around in their bucket, closing his eyes and enjoying the moment.

He could definitely get used to this.]

[Engineer is out for another half an hour before he finally stirs again, waking up and rubbing his eyes. He doesn't shift from his spot on the bed, though.]

I'm guessin' I was out a little too long. What time is it?

[not_onyourside]

[He glances at the alarm clock on the dresser without moving.]

Four.

I assume you were quite tired?

[sentryslinger]

I did get up early to get our gear.

[He stretches in his place.]

You sleep okay?

[not_onyourside]

Better zhan normal actually.

And you?

[ He squirms around in his blanket bundle but makes no move to get up. ]

[sentryslinger]

Just fine. Guess I needed it more than I thought I did.

Eets our reward for a successful day of fishing.

Zhough zhe storm does not seem to have let up much. At least zhe lightning stopped.

You weren't exaggerating on how much that stuff gets to ya, were you?

[not_onyourside]

Non.

At zhe base eef zhere ees a bad storm I usually cook. Eet distracts me and zhere are no windows een zhe kitchen so I cannot see eet.

You got no one to sit 'em out with you?

[not_onyourside]

I would not want to show such weakness een front of my team. Zhey would replace me.

[sentryslinger]

And it's more acceptable in front of an enemy, somehow.

But eef you tell anyone you would also have to admit how you know and why you were here wez me.

I zhink I am safe.

[sentryslinger]

You got me there.

So what do you do on the battlefield when the weather gets like this? It rains a lot out at Double Cross, doesn't it?

All zhe time. But not often lightning and thunder. Eet depends how bad zhe storm ees, because eef zhe lightning ees close zhe battle usually ends.

Double Cross has a long bridge over a ravine between zhe two bases, anyone on eet wez lightning would just be a target.And eef eet hits eizzer base usually eet knocks out zhe power.

Ozzerwise I stay een zhe enemy base underground wez zhe briefcase. Safer and I look like I am working.

It is. Just don't get caught doin' it. I can tell you right now that it's no fun bein' stuck in an enemy base.

But I had your best interests at heart.

[His grin is practically audible.]

I have been trapped een an enemy base before, believe me, I am well aware.

[sentryslinger]

[He pauses, not sure if he's going to be crossing a line with this question.]

What happened?

[not_onyourside]

You saw my arm oui?

Zhat happened.

[His voice is utterly monotone, not wanting to elaborate.]

[sentryslinger]

[There's some silence that follows, the only sound being that of the rain outside.]

I'm sorry.

[not_onyourside]

You do not need to be. Eet was a long time ago.
