Vacationing

[Continuing this thread, in which Spy has convinced Engineer to spend a vacation with him. Fishing, fine dining, and some enemy bonding ensue.


Engineer steps into the elevator, hitting the button for their floor, pulling at his collar to loosen that next button.]

Hey, thanks again for the dinner and the suit. I'll have to put it to use some other time to justify your spendin' money on all this.

In some ways. Harder in others. You'll fight harder for a team you know you can trust, especially if you feel some kind of kinship to 'em.

[He pauses to look out the window, but all he can see is their reflection silhouetted.]

It would. It ain't so bad, though, to have a team you care about. Men fighting by your side like brothers in bloodshed.

Zhe RED team does not have such.. camaraderie. I am lucky eef zhey notice I have died on zhe field.

[He laughs, a bit rueful.]

The BLU team doesn't have an abundance of it, either. It's more of a personal ideal of mine.

Well someday I hope you find a team zhat has such qualities.

[His hand this round is less than impressive; a pair of fives. But he studiously rearranges them around in his hand as if he has a whole hand of good cards.]

I agree, even if I am losin'.

[And about to lose more if he doesn't draw anything better than that pair of fours. He sees the way Spy is adjusting his cards- that's not making him hopeful.]

And who knows? Maybe we'll end up at the same base sometime, both assigned there. If nothin' else, we might each other to keep company, assumin' we don't drive each other crazy with this vacation idea of yours.

I zhought you did not like when I showed up at your base suddenly.

And we are not driving each ozzer crazy yet. One more day should do no harm.

I'll admit I ain't fond of when you show up and either stab me in the back or coerce me into some kind of hijinks I've got no business being involved in, but I'm warmin' up to at least one of those.

[Time to draw some cards. Oh boy, another four.]

I will only stab you when we are at work and at zhe same base. Which ees not zhe case now.

[Spy gets a whole lot more nothing. Hmph. They're both getting close to running out of things to take off. Which is both good and bad.]

I told you holidays are fun.

You did. And you were right. Sometimes, I get too caught up in work to see that.

[He lays down his three fours and resigns himself for a night in the buff, sure that is a losing hand.]

[Engie is in luck because Spy's pair of fives means it's time for him to lose his gloves. He frowns though, next losing hand will be between his shirt and his underpants. Unless he can convince Engineer that his watch counts as a viable item.]

I am often right, just no one likes to listen to me.

[He sighs in relief and shuffles the cards, hoping his luck holds out. That was a close one.]

Well, if all your ideas are like this one, I can see why. It might depend on who you're tryin' to convince, too. Soldier can be persuaded with the right argument. And I know you don't like hearin' it, but Pyros aren't so bad. They'd do just about anything for a new toy.

Well when eet does not work and I am burnt to a crisp I shall be most displeased.

Oh, I imagine you're clever enough to get out of that. Pyros tend to be rather... simple. Easy to please. Not like a man with refined tastes like yourself.

[He says that with the barest hint of sarcasm as he takes another drink from his wine.]

Nozzing at all alike.

[Oh he does not like you right now. He snorts and focuses on his cards instead. Things aren't terribly promising. A pair of sevens.]

You keep tellin' yourself that, son.

[Engie looks to his own- he's got a whole hand of nothing. He utters a swear under his breath and tries to mask it with a smile.]

[He heard that. Watch his grimace turn into a smug grin.]

You do not have much left to take off do you?

[He rubs the back of his head.]

Just the underwear, unless my Gunslinger counts.

I am not sure zhat body parts count een strip poker.

That's probably because most people can't take 'em off like I can.
