Vacationing

[Continuing this thread, in which Spy has convinced Engineer to spend a vacation with him. Fishing, fine dining, and some enemy bonding ensue.


Engineer steps into the elevator, hitting the button for their floor, pulling at his collar to loosen that next button.]

Hey, thanks again for the dinner and the suit. I'll have to put it to use some other time to justify your spendin' money on all this.

[He laughs again, pointing to his cards.]

Looks like you've got one here you can gloat about, if you want.

But I am magnanimous and will not.

[He drains the rest of his wine, standing up.]

Perhaps I will feel more like gloating in zhe morning, when I have not woken up at a ridiculously early hour.

[He smiles, sliding out of his chair and working his fingers into the waistband of his underpants.]

We did get up early, I'll give you that. Guess we oughtta—

[And then there's a bright flash of lightning and a loud crack of thunder, and all the lights go out.]

... I was going to say hit the hay, but wait for the generators to come on sounds just as good, I suppose.

[It's a good thing Engineer can't see the disappointed look on Spy's face.]

I suppose so.

[Why can't he ever win? He feels around on the table for his lighter, flicking it on.]

Zhough I still highly endorse zhe sleeping plan.

You go ahead and get a head start. I'm going to wait and see if they get that power back on.

What difference does power make eef you are asleep? We will not have zhe light on anyway.

It makes a difference if they need someone to fix it.

[He flips the lighter closed, grabbing Engineer around the middle and trying to drag him onto the bed.]

[At least he's laughing as he's getting dragged.]

You'll be thankin' me when we have heat in this room. It gets cold at night, you know.

You are not working on your holiday.

This wouldn't be working. It'd be doing all the other patrons a good service, from us to them.

Who knows nozzing about how zhese zhings work and will probably electrocute himself.

Also you can put on pants eef you are leaving zhe room. I am not zhat cruel.

You might be. You are tryin' to keep us from helping people who might need our assistance.

[Spy sighs. Here he is, in complete darkness, Engineer is in his underwear, he's managed to drag him onto the bed with him, and now he wants to go be some sort of mechanical hero.

Why can't Spy ever win?]

Very well. Eef you insist.

We'll just run down there and check real quick-like. It won't take long.

[He slides back into his pants and shirt, grabbing his toolbelt from his suitcase, not even bothering with shoes. Color him excited to deal with machinery as he heads for the door.]

[Spy mutters something in French as the warm body that had been pressed against him wandered away to go get greasy and disgusting out in the cold.]

I suppose.

[He sounds less than thrilled as he stumbles around in the dark pulling his pants and jacket back on.]

[Engineer heads several steps toward the elevator, only to remember it won't be working. He laughs and turns, heading for the steps.]

Time for you to learn a little about machines, partner.

Just what I have always wanted.

[He begrudgingly follows down the stairs, suddenly regretting being on such a high floor. At least hopefully the elevators would be working on the way up.]

What exactly are we doing again?

Goin' to see if they need any help. And if they do, maybe they'll show us some gratitude for our services.

I suppose zhey might be grateful.

[Visions of the kitchen being full of pie are dancing through his head.]

For now I will just be grateful eef I do not fall down zhis entire staircase.

[He opens the door to the stairwell and reaches into his toolbelt, producing a small flashlight. Yep- that is a super dark stairwell.]
