[Continuing this thread, in which Spy has convinced Engineer to spend a vacation with him. Fishing, fine dining, and some enemy bonding ensue.


Engineer steps into the elevator, hitting the button for their floor, pulling at his collar to loosen that next button.]

Hey, thanks again for the dinner and the suit. I'll have to put it to use some other time to justify your spendin' money on all this.

Not every Pyro is gonna lock you up like that. Honestly, most of 'em are a lot like you in a lot of ways.

Don't like the rain and storms. Fond of sweets. Like to share the bed when yer scared. I'd say that's just the tip of the iceberg.

For the record, I'm glad you aren't like my perception of most Spies.

I am too. Most of zhem are awful and I do not want to be awful.

I try not to be anyway.

I can promise you that.

Most of 'em are the worst people I've ever met with the company. Some aren't so bad, but the ones that are... I'd be happy to die tomorrow if it meant I never had to meet another one.

[He turns to look at him briefly, suspecting there's something he's not saying. He doesn't want to push him though.]

People who delight in killing people. More zhan killing, destroying people.

[He falls silent after that.]

[He's silent for a while, listening to the rain.]

I wouldn't say you're a terrible Spy. Hell, you could stab me in an hour and I'd never see it coming, you havin' earned my trust and all that. You just might be the type who appreciates a slow burn.

[He frowns.]

[Though he sees Engie's point.]

I suppose zhere's hardly a way for me to prove zhat zhough.

That's right. So I'm just gonna have to trust that you're different than the rest of 'em. Better.

I certainly aim to be.

[He's overthinking it now, assuming he's never going to really be able to prove to Engineer that he isn't just leading him on to make the payoff more intense when he later backstabs him.

He's still optimistic, but this is a situation that might be hopeless.]

[On the other side of the coin is Engineer, who can honestly say at this moment that while he thinks Spy has a tendency to embellish the truth every now and then, he's trustworthy enough. Maybe he's just happy to be familiar enough with someone to have a conversation like this. Lord knows he's hardly had one with any of the teammates he's been through in the last several years.

He lets the silence hang, listening to the rain again, peaceful.]

[He rubs his eyes, trying to think about something else.]

Shall we see eef we can get our fish turned eento dinner?

That sounds like a good idea right there. I'm thinkin' we can take 'em down to the kitchen and see if we can convince them to cook us up some room service.
