[Continuing this thread, in which Spy has convinced Engineer to spend a vacation with him. Fishing, fine dining, and some enemy bonding ensue.


Engineer steps into the elevator, hitting the button for their floor, pulling at his collar to loosen that next button.]

Hey, thanks again for the dinner and the suit. I'll have to put it to use some other time to justify your spendin' money on all this.

Just a lot of rain and wind. Maybe it'll clear up by tomorrow, leavin' us with some nice weather for tomorrow.

I hope so. I wanted to walk around and enjoy zhe sights.

[ Hopefully he'll be getting some sights to see right from the comfort of his own hotel room. ]

[Engineer deals the cards, looking at his hand. Things are already off to a bad start, if the way his brow creases has anything to say about it.]

What else is there to see around here, anyway?

[ Spy's hand isn't that great either, but he grins as he casually picks one card and moves it three to the left, maneuvering them around to his liking. ]

I have no idea. I have only been een zhis town once before and I was occupied wez ozzer activities. I picked eet because I knew zhere was a tub and I promised you a tub.

[Engie swaps out three cards, starting to wish they'd played Texas Hold'em.]

Kind of you to consider me in your decision. I'll be sure to return the favor if I ever pick where we go, assumin' we do this again.

[ He should have suggested that as Spy doesn't know the rules to that. ]

[Too late now. Those three cards helped very little. At least his goggles are hiding his eyes a little.]

[My my, doesn't he look smug about his paltry three of a kind.]

[Let's be honest: he's lucky to have a single pair. This hand wasn't any good, okay.]

[Someone is losing a hat here very soon.]

[He puts his cards down.]

[Oh that smug grin gets more smug.]

Well, someone had to lose.

[He starts with the hat just because it's easiest, setting it beside him and dealing another hand. At least Spy seems to enjoy his win for one reason or another.]

[Spy's luck isn't as great with this hand. He doesn't even have a pair, just some random cards. At least one is a King, but other than that this round is dismal.

He sorts them around, as if he fiddles with them enough they'll magically turn into better cards.]

Zhat ees a good way to zhink of eet.

You learn to be positive in a game like this. Or with cards at all. I don't get to play with anyone but Pyro most of the time.

[Well shoot, this hand isn't much good, either. He draws three cards and hopes for the best, and he gets it, to a degree: he goes from nothing to a straight just like that.]

[Spy frowns when he only improves to a pair. Of threes no less.]

You often play strip poker with Pyros?

[He laughs.]

Nah, though wouldn't that be somethin'?

[Speaking of losing, he sets down his sad excuse for a hand, hoping against hope that maybe Engineer pulled something worse.]

That's if you get into the game far enough to have a hand at all. Or if there are even other people playin'. Most games, it's me, Pyro, and an armful of stuffed unicorns and puppy dogs.

[He shows his straight. Read 'em and weep, Spy.]

[He groans, and his Hashshashin goes to join Engie's hardhat.]

How embarrassing ees eet to lose to zhe unicorn?

[There's a knock at the door and Spy goes to let the porter back in, wheeling in a cart with their dinner on it.]

[Engie looks behind him, setting his cards down for a moment.]

Should we pause for dinner, or keep going?

I zhink a break ees een order.

[The porter shakes his head and leaves, obviously having the wrong idea about why these two men are sharing a room. Not that he'd care what they're doing after the tip Spy gave him.

Spy rolls the little cart over to the table. The catfish has been fried with delicate breading along with coleslaw and a basket full of seasoned biscuits that smell delicious. There's also a creamy sort of soup that has chunks of the two other fish they caught in it. ]

Zhis ees better zhan I expected a hotel restaurant to do honestly.

I have to say I agree. I'm not about to complain, though.

[He scoots the cards aside and makes room for dinner.]

We got anything to drink other than beer, or should I go get us something?

I should have asked him to bring us somezzing. Eet must have slipped my mind.

We should have gotten ice for zhe beer so eet stayed cold.

Yeah, it ain't so great now that it's room temperature. I picked the beer, so you pick what'll go with this.
