Vacationing

[Continuing this thread, in which Spy has convinced Engineer to spend a vacation with him. Fishing, fine dining, and some enemy bonding ensue.


Engineer steps into the elevator, hitting the button for their floor, pulling at his collar to loosen that next button.]

Hey, thanks again for the dinner and the suit. I'll have to put it to use some other time to justify your spendin' money on all this.

[On the other side of the coin is Engineer, who can honestly say at this moment that while he thinks Spy has a tendency to embellish the truth every now and then, he's trustworthy enough. Maybe he's just happy to be familiar enough with someone to have a conversation like this. Lord knows he's hardly had one with any of the teammates he's been through in the last several years.

He lets the silence hang, listening to the rain again, peaceful.]

[He rubs his eyes, trying to think about something else.]

Shall we see eef we can get our fish turned eento dinner?

That sounds like a good idea right there. I'm thinkin' we can take 'em down to the kitchen and see if we can convince them to cook us up some room service.

I would enjoy zhat. Stay een and enjoy zhe rain while remaining warm.

[There's hope for you yet Engie.]

Of course zhat involves getting up.

Or a phone call and a wad of money.

An even better idea.

[He sits up, pulling all the blankets with him. His clothes have gotten all twisted round from being balled up in fear, and he spends some time smoothing them out before actually getting out of bed.]

Eets cold out here. Zhis was a terrible idea.

[But he takes a look in their bucket, the fish still swimming round and round, except for the catfish that is laying still, opening and closing its mouth at Spy as if it's yelling at him. He just smiles at them before heading for the phone.]

[Engineer slides out from the blankets, swearing under this breath— Spy's right, it is cold out there. While his shirt from earlier is dry, his pants aren't, so he pulls the shirt on and leaves the dress pants on for now. They're just going to have to live with a few wrinkles.

He beelines for his suitcase as he looks out the window, going for his wallet and fishing out some money.]

[Spy is busily working his magic on the person on the other end of the phone. Politely inquiring if the kitchen took special requests, and when informed they don't putting on his best charismatic bedroom purr to ask what could be done to convince them.

It takes some back and forth finagling but Spy finally hangs up with a smug smirk.]

Zhey are coming up to collect our catch.

[sentryslinger]

I figured if either of us could convince them, it'd be you. You're the one with the silver tongue.

[He puts down some money on the bed.]

Eet comes from talking my way eento places I am not supposed to be.

[Like certain people's beds. He takes a few bills from Engineer's pile, and then pulls a few out of his own wallet, splitting it between them. When the kitchen porter arrives at their door he passes him the bucket of fish, and a folded wad of money that makes the man grin.

Getting what he wanted and making someone else's day. It's a good day for Spy.]

[Engineer watches out the window while Spy deals with the porter, wondering if the storm is going to last the night. The clouds are certainly thick- that'll ruin any walking down the boulevard they had in mind.

At least they'll get a good evening inside. The company is nice.]

We'll have to find some way to entertain ourselves in here tonight. I don't think this rain is gonna pass anytime soon.

I did not pack any board games. Perhaps I should have checked zhe weazzer before bringing you on holiday.

[He wraps one of the blankets around his shoulders like a cape and goes to sit in the armchair by the window.]

Are any of your many degrees een reading zhe clouds?

They aren't, but I know what a storm front looks like.

[He goes back to his suitcase, digging through the pockets.]

All I've got is a deck of cards.

You do not strike me as a gambling man.

[ But he smiles at the cards. Perhaps today will go even better. ]

I play when I get the chance. Not that money is an object, these days- met a Soldier once who played for hats, though.

And what shall we play for?

Zhe only zhing we seem to have een abundance are tiny shampoo bottles.

I'd suggest a game of Strip Poker, but I think I'd be at a serious disadvantage. That, and you seem like the shy type.

[he arches an eyebrow.]

Risqué.

I would not have expected zhat eizzer.

Zhough I would say we are bozh starting at a disadvantage.

I guess that's true. Somehow, I figured you'd be fully dressed under there.

[not_onyourside]

Wearing a suit under my clozzes at all times? Non, even I must be comfortable sometimes.

I accept your challenge.

[Enjoy that grin.]

[The surprise on his face is immediate; he hadn't expected Spy would actually take him up on that game, given how hesitant he's been to undress in other situations. After all, this is the guy who clearly stepped into the dark to strip for a shower, and he was not happy about taking off his shirt or mask for a medical examination.

Still, Engie isn't one to back down now that a challenge has been accepted. He just hopes Spy isn't the cheating type because he's already at a disadvantage: he's not that good at poker.]

Alrighty, then. Guess we oughtta put on a few more things so we actually have somethin' to take off.

And look presentable when our food arrives. I would hate for you to have to gazzer our food while een zhe nude.

[He can see that look of shock, but he's not going to back out of this. An opportunity to see more of Engie and it was even his idea? This is a great night.

He goes to his luggage to pull out his jacket and gloves and Hashshashin.]

Awfully confident, aren't you?

[Assessing how many pieces Spy has on and how many he's getting, Engineer goes to match, grabbing the jacket from last night, his hat, and goggles. This is certainly going to be different from playing cards with Pyro- for one, they're not playing Go Fish with several toys, and two, the game probably won't end in lighting the deck on fire.

Donning is extra clothes, he takes a seat at the table and starts shuffling, pausing to grab a beer. It's a little warm by now, but he's going to need it.]

Well zhere ees no way for me to lose honestly. And zhere will be food.

[He's giving Engie an advantage by not wearing a vest and tie, but he's fairly confident in his poker playing ability. Tugging his hat on he goes to sit across from him, watching the cards as he shuffles them. ]

Zhis storm ees not so bad when zhere ees no lightning.

Just a lot of rain and wind. Maybe it'll clear up by tomorrow, leavin' us with some nice weather for tomorrow.
