[Continuing this thread, in which Spy has convinced Engineer to spend a vacation with him. Fishing, fine dining, and some enemy bonding ensue.


Engineer steps into the elevator, hitting the button for their floor, pulling at his collar to loosen that next button.]

Hey, thanks again for the dinner and the suit. I'll have to put it to use some other time to justify your spendin' money on all this.

A boy like that? I'm bettin' all they had to do was offer him money. It ain't about the paycheck, though. It'd be about makin' his mama proud.

I'd imagine he doesn't tell her that part. Just that he's a workin' man with a job that can help support the family.

True. I heard he's got a lot of brothers. Maybe she's just at that point where she ain't surprised by anything anymore.

Probably eef zhey are all as boisterous as Scout she has stopped listening to zhem past where zhey tell her zhey are doing fine.

So we've got some men here because of circumstance, and some men here for the money. I think Demoman would've taken the job even if it didn't pay well on account of it bein' a job at all. It's the family business with them, I believe.

[He resists the temptation to swap out any cards to try to get something better.]

As for myself, Engineerin' runs in the family.

I don't think any of us anticipated that bein' our family's lastin' mark on this world, but that's how it is.

Pyro says that, too. I don't think most mercenaries would agree, seein' how they're too busy gettin' torn apart by 'em.

Well zhey beep and make adorable sounds. Until zhey get bigger and zhen zhey are not so cute.

[Stop comparing him to Pyro. He huffs as he takes the deck and reshuffles.]

So I should adjust the sounds to something more intimidating.

[He deals out the cards, a little unsettled by whatever it is Engineer is smiling about.]

[Engie's eyes go to his cards. He'll be keeping why he's smiling to himself.]

Unless we end up at a base together, I don't suppose you'll have to worry about that.

Eef you are transfered around as often as you say, zhat may happen.

[Engie has nothing, but at least most of his nothing is high cards. Let's see if drawing a couple will help his chances.]

It might. There are a lot of bases, though. I've been through a lot of teammates.

And a lot of enemies. Of which I am zhe best, non?

You're the only one who's taken me on vacation like this, I'll give you that.

[Spy's draws don't net him anything better than his pair. Though maybe his luck will hold and Engie will have a worse pair. Ever the optimist.]
