Vacationing

[Continuing this thread, in which Spy has convinced Engineer to spend a vacation with him. Fishing, fine dining, and some enemy bonding ensue.


Engineer steps into the elevator, hitting the button for their floor, pulling at his collar to loosen that next button.]

Hey, thanks again for the dinner and the suit. I'll have to put it to use some other time to justify your spendin' money on all this.

[He deals out the cards, a little unsettled by whatever it is Engineer is smiling about.]

[Engie's eyes go to his cards. He'll be keeping why he's smiling to himself.]

Unless we end up at a base together, I don't suppose you'll have to worry about that.

[Engie has nothing, but at least most of his nothing is high cards. Let's see if drawing a couple will help his chances.]

It might. There are a lot of bases, though. I've been through a lot of teammates.

You're the only one who's taken me on vacation like this, I'll give you that.

[Spy's draws don't net him anything better than his pair. Though maybe his luck will hold and Engie will have a worse pair. Ever the optimist.]

[Engie manages to get another queen. That'll have to do.]

You'll probably be the only one to beat me in a game of strip poker in a fancy hotel room, too. You're one of two I've shared wine with, not countin' the time Demoman got into the wrong bottle.

I would imagine wine would taste like water to him. I have unfortunately drank zhe petrol he considers a beverage.

[He sighs, resigning himself to most likely losing his socks and therefore freezing to death.]

[Engie laughs, laying his cards down. Look at those lovely ladies.]

Were you still standing? I imagine that put some hair on your chest.

[ It's as he expected. Another sigh and off go his fancy silk socks. ]

I was standing for a little while. Zhen I zhrew eet all up. And zhen I was hungover for a week.

Not an experience I would want to relive.

[Engineer is glad for that win as he starts shuffling again. The score is evening out.]

I don't doubt it. I'm surprised you gave it a try. It doesn't seem like the kind of drink you'd partake in, even if you lost a bet.

Eet seemed like a good idea at zhe time.

[He'll just casually leave out the part where he also slept cuddling the RED Sniper's arm and nearly rolled into a fire.]

But lesson learned, never drink zhat again.

That'd be a lesson best taught through experience.

[He sips at his wine and deals out the next hand. Watch him grin again, Spy.]

Tell me somethin' else interesting you've done. I feel like I've talked an awful lot about myself tonight.

[He grimaces at his own hand. So much for his luck.]

I stole my car from someone on zhe BLU team at Badwater.

Is it that one we drove here?

Oui. Eet used to be turquoise. I had eet painted a more respectable colour.

[Ah, a new card and suddenly a pair of kings.]

Zhere was also a truck, but Sniper crashed eet eento a tree.

[Despite his shuffling, he's ended up with that same pair of queens. He can only hope they bring him luck a second time around.]

He a reckless driver?

Well we had bozh dunk quite a bit zhat day. Also eet might have been because I fell out of zhe truck while he was driving.

[Actually what little he remembered about that night centered around Sniper destroying his pants and covering him with flour and then stealing the bouncy ball and also falling out of a moving vehicle.]

This wasn't the same night you got into the scrumpy, wass it?

No. Zhen we would bozh probably be dead.

[Oh ho ho. There's a third king. Spy's luck might be changing.]

[Engie draws- still just those two queens. That'll have to do.]

Well, if he crashed a drunk on account of you fallin' out of it, I'd say he was just worried about you.

Maybe.

[Or concerned their precious cutout cow cargo might be damaged.

Spy lays down his three kings, mentally calculating what should come off next should he lose.]

Well dang. And here I thought I might do okay this round.

[Two queens don't help him this time around, so the next thing to go is the glove he'd had over his bare hand, worn to help with the fishing earlier. In the light of the room, there's a faint scar visible along the underside of his left arm, one at about the same level as where the Gunslinger is on his right. Looks like he tried it the other way around at some point.]

And here you told me you had no friends.

[He eyes that scar briefly before going back to the cards. He's not really in a position to question anyones scars when he barely wanted to acknowledge his own.]

Spies are not allowed to have friends.

[Which isn't entirely Engie's point.]
