Vacationing

[Continuing this thread, in which Spy has convinced Engineer to spend a vacation with him. Fishing, fine dining, and some enemy bonding ensue.


Engineer steps into the elevator, hitting the button for their floor, pulling at his collar to loosen that next button.]

Hey, thanks again for the dinner and the suit. I'll have to put it to use some other time to justify your spendin' money on all this.

We'll just run down there and check real quick-like. It won't take long.

[He slides back into his pants and shirt, grabbing his toolbelt from his suitcase, not even bothering with shoes. Color him excited to deal with machinery as he heads for the door.]

[Spy mutters something in French as the warm body that had been pressed against him wandered away to go get greasy and disgusting out in the cold.]

I suppose.

[He sounds less than thrilled as he stumbles around in the dark pulling his pants and jacket back on.]

[Engineer heads several steps toward the elevator, only to remember it won't be working. He laughs and turns, heading for the steps.]

Time for you to learn a little about machines, partner.

Just what I have always wanted.

[He begrudgingly follows down the stairs, suddenly regretting being on such a high floor. At least hopefully the elevators would be working on the way up.]

What exactly are we doing again?

Goin' to see if they need any help. And if they do, maybe they'll show us some gratitude for our services.

I suppose zhey might be grateful.

[Visions of the kitchen being full of pie are dancing through his head.]

For now I will just be grateful eef I do not fall down zhis entire staircase.

I've got us covered.

[He opens the door to the stairwell and reaches into his toolbelt, producing a small flashlight. Yep- that is a super dark stairwell.]

What ozzer goodies do you have een zhere?

[He peers over Engie's shoulder, not liking the idea of walking down 12 flights of stairs with only a flashlight.]

One for you too, if it'll make ya feel better.

[He offers a flashlight back to Spy, heading down as fast as his little legs will take him.]

You will be zhe one I roll eento eef I fall.

[He clicks it on, starting down the black hole of a staircase.]

You are really excited about zhis.

Can't help it, Spy. I won't turn down an opportunity to fix a problem.

Even een zhe middle of a storm wez zhe power out.

And here I thought you might not think that, seein' how you're havin' to put up with me now.

[He slips on the last few steps and barrels down, staying on his feet, but hitting the door at the bottom pretty hard. Even with that hit, he's chuckling.]

Guess I got ahead of myself for a second there.

Eets your holiday too. Eef you want to spend eet fixing lightbulbs, so be eet.

[He jumps back immediately at the sound, nearly falling himself before he trains the beam of his flashlight on the pile of Engineer at the landing.]

Are you alright?

[He brushes off his shoulder, as it's the part that hit the door the hardest.]

Yeah, I'm fine. Maybe I shouldn't go running down several flights of stairs after drinking so much wine next time.

Awww. That icon.

Especially not een zhe dark.

[Tucking the flashlight under his arm he reaches down to help Engie up.]

Are you going to be up to fixing whatever ees broken?

I couldn't help myself.

Absolutely.

[He takes Spy's hand and gets back to his feet, pulling the door open and heading through. His eagerness shows as he heads to the front desk to ask about the problem. While the concierge isn't so sure about a patron working on the machinery, an Engineer or not, Engie doesn't want to take no for an answer. This might be the most excited he's looked all night.]

They're precious

[Spy sighs again and follows, running a hand over his face before leaning on the desk next to Engie to vouch for his knowledge and expertise. The concierge looks unconvinced until another employee enters through a side door and a chill blast of howling wind follows him.

Between that and the overly excited Engineer with a toolbelt willing to fix it, the desk clerk leads them to the back where the machinery is.]

Just like these two mercenaries.

[Engineer is like a kid in a candy store as they enter the back room that houses the generator. It takes up a good portion of one wall- he's not even up to it before he starts digging through his toolbelt, getting to work with hardly a word to the poor, frazzled employee, who ducks back through the doorway.]

Just gonna check the gas levels first, then I'll take a look at the wiring. You want to grab the Channellock wrench and start pullin' off the bolts for the panel over there?

Zhe what now? Wez .. where?

[Spy shines the flashlight on Engineer assuming he hit his head when he fell down the stairs and is now babbling nonsense.]

[He dips his Gunslinger into his toolbelt and hands Spy a wrench. In the middle of the head is some kind of gear that allows the jaw to slide wider, if necessary. Back he goes to look at the fuel lines.]

That panel over there on the far left. Just pull all the bolts off the one end and we'll take a look inside.

[Spy stares at it as if he'd just been handed a severed appendage.]

Right. Of course.

[He looks at the panel, then back at the wrench, then at the panel again.]

Just take zhe bolts off?

[He twirls the gear in the wrench watching the opening get wider, briefly distracted from the task at hand.]

Yep! Just pull 'em right off.

[Just like he does with a different panel near the bottom of the machine. He slides inside with his flashlight in his mouth, looking around at the guts of the contraption.]

Of course. Why not? Zhis ees precisely what I wanted to spend zhe night doing.

[He puts the wrench against a bolt and starts to loosen it. They're stuck on pretty tight though and he has to use both hands to move it, the flashlight crunched between his neck and his shoulder.

He pushes on the wrench particularly hard, causing the bolt to suddenly start moving and Spy's knuckles to smash against the panel. He curses, dropping the flashlight and rubbing his poor maligned fingers.]

[Engineer slides out from under the machine, somehow already dirty even though he's only been under there for about twenty seconds.]
