[Continuing this thread, in which Spy has convinced Engineer to spend a vacation with him. Fishing, fine dining, and some enemy bonding ensue.


Engineer steps into the elevator, hitting the button for their floor, pulling at his collar to loosen that next button.]

Hey, thanks again for the dinner and the suit. I'll have to put it to use some other time to justify your spendin' money on all this.

I can't imagine I'd be any good with throwin' knives no matter how well I can skip a rock across a lake.

[They come up to a log sitting by the lakeside, and Engie is happy to take a seat on it to watch the people on the other side. Life goes on over there: people enter and exit the hotel, some walk toward the stores, others are getting out on the lake themselves. None of them are heavy-hearted, or haunted by demons. It's a good life.

He leans back, taking in a deep breath. Ah, fresh air.]

[Spy pauses by the log, pulling out his cigarette case and lighting one up, eyes on the lake.]

Everyone certainly seems to be enjoying zhemselves. Zhat would be nice at zhe base.

I wonder if we'd even get along if we weren't workin' together.

Me and you or our coworkers een general? Because I zhink we would get along fine.

[And it would sure be a lot easier to try and seduce him...]

We might. Not sure where I'd would've crossed paths with you without this job, though.

Probably never. You would still be working on your machines, but I would not be slinking een zhe shadows killing people.

Unless of course you had somezzing worzh stealing.

My contraptions might be worth something to someone other than our bosses. I'm pretty sure of that.

What I meant was if the rest of the team would get along. We come from all different backgrounds, all kinds of places. If we'd met somewhere that wasn't the battlefield, what would we do?

I am not sure we ever would meet. But for zhe sake of argument, I zhink some of us would get along. Soldier and Medic .. not so much.

I don't see Soldier gettin' along with anyone, though he and Demoman apparently did.

Demo was most likely too drunk to know any better. Also zhey have common interests: blowing zhings up and explosions.

Demo and Sniper. They can swap stories about what their mamas would have them do instead of whatever career it is they've chosen for themselves.

No one can but his mozzer. But eef we were not on a team wez him, we would not have to deal wez him. We could just leave and he could go play wez people his own age.

I wonder how far he'd get without a job like this, honestly. He's just a kid sometimes, but I get the feelin' he's hiding a lot under there. Probably hidin' just as much as the rest of us.

I meant fears. Insecurities. Things he wishes he could do, but can't for the life of him.
