Vacationing

[Continuing this thread, in which Spy has convinced Engineer to spend a vacation with him. Fishing, fine dining, and some enemy bonding ensue.


Engineer steps into the elevator, hitting the button for their floor, pulling at his collar to loosen that next button.]

Hey, thanks again for the dinner and the suit. I'll have to put it to use some other time to justify your spendin' money on all this.

You didn't deserve to be treated like that. No man does, but especially not by his own damn teammates.

[So much for relaxing. His shoulders tense as his fingers curl in on themselves, the Gunslinger whirring as it balls into a fist.]

Zhis ees zhe opposite of relaxing mon ami.

[ He pulls his hands back sensing that he's losing the mood. ]

You need not be angry on my behalf.

I know. And I shouldn't be, but I guess I just can't help it sometimes. Some things just aren't right, and there's not a thing I can do about 'em.

[He sighs heavily, his hands relaxing as he reaches around to rub his neck. He's still tense back there, but it's more from the thought of his own shortcomings than anything.]

Do you care about everyone zhis much?

[How about a hug. That'll fix it right? Especially when Engie is barely wearing clothes.]

Zhere are many zhings een life we cannot change, zhough I suppose I also try needlessly. Still, zhis ees a holiday and zhe point ees to relax and not zhink about eet.

[He could probably use one, though he's more used to them coming from Pyro. He nods, leaving Spy's question unanswered as he replies.]

You're right. It's in my nature to solve problems, so even if I can't change something, I'm probably gonna try at least a few times. Call me stubborn like that.

But you're tryin' to help, and it'd be rude if I kept dwellin' on this. I'm sorry, Spy. I'll have to face my demons eventually, but I'll work on them another day. You let me teach you how to fish, so the least I can do is learn a thing or two about how to relax.

[ He smiles, resuming his massage. ]

You do not need to be sorry. After all zhis ees all new to you yes? Small steps.

[He returns Spy's smile.]

Small steps.

[It's ten or so seconds later before he rolls his shoulders again, stifling a groan. A little closer to the neck, Spy.]

You're not bad at this, you know that?

I told you, skilled een many zhings. Zhough I am sorely out of practice.

[ He's going to remember the sound of that groan till the day he dies. ]

Well, you aren't doin' bad for it, I'll tell you that. Can't remember the last time I had one of these.

I would be happy to be your personal masseuse available at your beck and call.

[sentryslinger]

[That gets a laugh from him, one that shakes the bed.]

You'd have to move into my workshop for all the times I'd need you.

Eef you are going to feed me and I do not have to die daily I would gladly live een your workshop.

[Honestly that sounds wonderful.]

How are you feeling now?

Much better, thanks to you. I could have you do this all night if I didn't know how much you like sleepin'.

[not_onyourside]

Eets like you know me already even zhough we've only been here for a few days.

[He wraps an arm around Engineers chest and gently drags him back against the bed.]

And you should sleep as well so I do not have a snoring lump as company when we drive back to zhe base.

All right, all right. I'll see if I can do better than last night. Wouldn't want to end up nappin' against you in the car and givin' myself another crick in the neck, seein' how you won't be there to fix it later. Not unless you are plannin' on movin' in after all.

[He scoots up the bed the rest off the way and slides himself under the covers before disengaging his Gunslinger and setting it on the nightstand next to his goggles -- just in case.]

Good. And now I am also going to shower and sleep. You had better not be up working on blueprints when I get out.

[ a very very cold shower. He gathers his silky pajamas and heads into the bathroom, one final wistful glance at Engie before he closes the door. ]

And here I thought you'd shower in the morning. Guess I don't know you as well as I thought.

[He shakes his head, settling into bed as Spy closes the door. Expect him to be out like a light when you get out of there, Spy. He went to bed, as promised.]

[Probably for the best since Spy takes a much longer shower than normal. For no reason whatsoever. He smiles softly when he sees the sleeping Engineer, at least someone listens to him. He turns the light out, tucking Engie into bed before going to his own and settling in for the night.

The rain continues to patter against the window, but at least there's no lightning.]

[He is out until the late morning, the sunlight greeted by his snoring. Sorry if he wakes you up, Spy.]

[Spy is already awake, sitting in the window and watching the lake sparkle in the sun while he sips a steaming cup of tea. Every so often he glances back at Engineer making sure he hadn't escaped from the blanket cocoon Spy had tucked him into.]

[sentryslinger]

[There's a stirring under those blankets -- looks like he's trying to find a way out. His good hand emerges first, feeling around on the nightstand for the Gunslinger.]

Think I got tangled up somewhere in the night.

[Or at least that's what it sounds like he's saying, his voice muffled from the blanket.]

[not_onyourside]

[ Spy just smiles and goes over to unroll him. ]

You sleep like you are dead mon ami.

[sentryslinger]

Got to make up for those nights when I don't sleep at all.

[He manages to escape his cocoon, taking in a deep breath of the morning air when he does. It's a good thing he keeps his head shaved, or he'd have an awful case of bed head.]

What time is it?

A little after nine.

Would you care for some tea?

[Spy on the other hand looks like he just stepped off a fancy yacht.]

[So Engineer has noticed.]

Not me, thank you. I'm more of a coffee man in the morning.

[He peels himself from his bed, reattaching his Gunslinger and stretching. He's still wearing just those boxers, by the way.]

You did get some sleep, didn'tcha?
