Who: RED Pyro (
notintehkitchen) & BLU Engineer (
sentryslinger)
When & Where: Nighttime at the Coaltown Barracks
Why: For a bonfire!
Status: Ongoing
[Getting assigned to a new base was nothing unusual for Engineer: he'd been moved from one place to another his entire career, never spending too long in one location. It was a hard job being a builder, but one he enjoyed enough to stay when many others in his position would have quit long ago.
However, getting assigned to a base full of REDs was a new experience. With the war between RED and BLU ending in a truce where the teams combined forces to fight wave after wave of Gray Mann's robot legions, it was inevitable that he'd eventually end up on a team with a RED or two. What he hadn't expected was to be the only BLU there, the rest of his comrades his former enemies.
Engineer was the sort to get along though, and a man who took first impressions seriously. He'd done well on the battlefield the past few days, trying to acclimate to his new coworkers. The Heavy was as friendly as any he'd met on BLU, the Medic just as skittish, the Scout just as boisterous. Demoman wasn't far from his BLU counterpart either, despite the claim of how few one-eyed, cyclopean Scotsmen there were in the world.
The problem arose when work was done and it was time to head home for the night. The REDs mostly kept to themselves- to them, he was still a newcomer, just barely above the robots they fought in terms of trust. It was going to take time for them to treat him like one of the team. He knew that much from all the bases he'd been transferred to during his career.
That was why he decided to start small, and with someone he was definitely going to be working with on a close basis: the Pyro. Judging by the fact that the rest of the REDs had eerily resembled BLUs he'd worked with in the past, he felt it was a safe bet that the Pyro wasn't too distant from ones he'd seen, either.
And that was the reason he'd invited her to a bonfire a short distance from the barracks. He figured he couldn't go wrong with that.]

on 2013-05-20 06:24 pm (UTC)Don't want to get burnt? Why not? I like it.
[Sitting down a little ways away from the fire, she decided not to scare him by purposely burning herself.]
I am a Pyro after all.

on 2013-05-20 08:19 pm (UTC)[Back he goes to skewering hot dogs, leaning them over a rock so they rest in the flames to cook.]
Hope you don't mind hot dogs. I wasn't really sure what it was you preferred, but I figured it's hard to go wrong with a good ol' American cookout.

on 2013-05-22 09:37 pm (UTC)[He smiles and has a seat on one of the rocks he's set up as seats for them. She's got one too on the other side of the fire. Maybe he feels it's best they have at least a little space between them, given they were former enemies.]
Now then. Tell me a little about yourself. Have ya been with RED long?

on 2015-01-27 09:42 pm (UTC)[She didn't know if saying the exact number would be considered classified information. With as much as she liked to talk be it about herself or any other subject sometimes she worried what she might blurt out. Pyro was a rather honest girl who without her mask on could say some rather surprising things.]
Hmm. Probably longer then Scout.
[She had never put too much thought into it but now that she brought up that girl crazy boy she remembered that the age gap between the rest of her comrades was big.]

on 2015-01-29 08:50 pm (UTC)I'd guess maybe a few years, but with how good you seem at your job, it oughtta be more than that. Then again, maybe you've just got yourself a knack for handlin' a flamethrower.

on 2015-01-29 08:59 pm (UTC)[Just don't ask her to use her shotgun--she really is a piss poor shot. Sniper likes to tease her. When she thinks about being a Pyro she sees herself as a person who is easily replaceable compared to other comrades. If she wasn't scared of fire and being suicidal
despite always having a way of coming back to life.would she be able to survive in this world? The other options for her life all seemed boring.]I'm not sure if using a flamethrower is talent so much as ambushing a crowd of enemies properly.

on 2015-01-29 11:45 pm (UTC)[Being a guard dog for people like Engineer and Sniper really did feel rewarding. Usually, she would always get a pat on the head like a loyal pet would. If she were to be treated like a loved animal, she didn't find it bad in the slightest.
Deciding to add on the thoughts she were thinking, she gushed a bit before putting her gloved hands on her cheeks.]
Plus, I guess that means I get more attention too!

on 2015-01-30 09:48 am (UTC)You don't get enough of that from the rest of the fellas around here?

on 2015-01-30 10:39 am (UTC)[The way she wanted being from a particular somebody she held extra dear. There was no denying she felt weird around that extra dear person but she couldn't understand what it was that got her so riled up.]
It's the best if it comes from the one I like the most!

on 2015-01-30 10:44 am (UTC)Got some good, old-fashioned favoritism, Pyro? That for someone here, or back at the other bases, before all this robot business?
no subject
on 2015-01-30 10:48 am (UTC)[A whole lot.
Taking a good look at the hot dog, she is starting to realize just how hungry she is.]
It's more fun to keep some of those things personal for several reasons.
[Or because that very person was a BLU who happened to be spending the night with her right now. Yep, that was another reason not to state what she felt was obvious. Engineer was intelligent but when it came to the opposite sex was he lacking something?]
I'd probably get in trouble.

on 2015-01-30 11:20 am (UTC)[That hot dog is done- he offers it to her, skewer and all.]
Ladies first.

on 2015-01-30 12:30 pm (UTC)[Stopping mid-sentence and taking the hot dog from him she nodded a bit in thanks. She was hungry enough just to start digging in right away. As she chewed, she thought about how convenient a lot of Western food was.]
Does lots of American food always cook very fast? If I made food properly from back home most of it would take a long, especially a proper bento for an outing.
[Although it might be fun to make a bento for someone she really liked.]

on 2015-01-30 10:14 pm (UTC)[He grabs one of the other dogs, grabbing a bun and sliding it into it.]
Hot dogs cook quickly, but you have to take your time if you want that perfect steak or a home-cooked turkey.
no subject
on 2015-01-30 11:51 pm (UTC)There's a bit of a twitch as he brings up steak and turkey. It sounds like eating those types of foods is a common meal in this country. As a little girl she remembers seeing it on lots of western type programming and movies of people eating such meals with their beautiful and perfect family.]
So much meat. I'd be happy if I could just eat all the meat I could and nothing else. Back home, I didn't get to eat so extravagant.

It's Japan, right? I thought I heard you greet me I with it when ya walked up.

on 2015-01-31 11:17 am (UTC)[She has to deal with Scout calling her Chinese all the time and if she corrects him he says he doesn't understand the difference.]
Sorry about that, I try hard not to speak in a language nobody understands. That's very rude. I suppose I'm programmed to just speak my native tongue and forget to switch it off.
[Pyro does have a bit of an accent but it's rather light for someone who grew up overseas. Hearing English so often from her own hobbies certainly helped her along the way.]
